Our Family: December 2023

Here's our family--Laura, Alex, Deborah, Leigh, Amy, Iris, Callie, and Mac. We promised everyone we'd take them out to dinner if they would cooperate for pictures, and it worked pretty well. Even Iris was a pretty good sport. We had to get pictures done before Laura left on an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She began her training on October 30, 2023, and is set to fly to Cambodia on January 7. It has been less than a month, but she has already learned a lot of Khmer (the Cambodian language),
Amy is currently working as a cook at HuHot Grill. She just bought her first car, a 2004 Toyota Corolla. During the marching band season, she volunteered as a tech for the Salem Hills High School marching band, and got to be part of their 1st place finish in their division at the state competition. She likes to use her creative talents in creating intricate costumes for cosplay.
Alex got to be part of the front ensemble for that winning band performance. He discovered he loves marching band. He also enjoys being part of the school choir and organizing boxing matches. He works at the local Subway restaurant in his spare time.
Callie, Mac and Iris live in Saratoga Springs. Callie works part-time as a special education teacher. She serves in the primary presidency at church. Mac works from home for a marketing company, and is able to look after Iris while Callie is at work. Iris is the star in the family. Everyone lights up when we get to see her. She will turn 2 in March, but she hasn't hit the terrible twos yet, so she's pretty delightful to have around.
Leigh is still working at BYU. He just got called to be the ward executive secretary at church for the 4th time. In his spare time, he is building a shed in the back yard. Deborah has (temporarily?) given up on substitute teaching because there has been too much going on at home. At church, she has been teaching the youth in Sunday School. The biggest recent change in our lives is that after 14 years of living on a dead-end street, on December 5, our road was extended to connect to a major road. So if any of you know of any great houses for sale, we just might be interested (just kidding, I think).
We wish you the most joyous Christmas ever, and a bountiful 2024 And as you face personal shallenges, or watch all the turmoil in the world, we pray that just as He did in Mark 4, Jesus will calm the storms in your life. We bear testimony of His birth, His divinity, and his great Atoning sacrifice. We know He lives and that He loves each one of us, and desires to help us succeed. With love from the Johnsons
